COMPOSITION

Essentialism seems to be the most appropriate term to characterise my music. Essentialism – a term derived from Latin essentia, which can be translated as essence, content; used mainly in philosophy and psychology. The first, most important and fundamental difference between minimalism and essentialism is that while the former focuses on reduction, the latter aims to focus on the essence. This apparently simple difference in approach presents the issue in a completely new perspective; you can consider the choice of the most significant means and not the reduction of the redundant ones. While minimalism is characterized by limitations within which artists pursue freedom, essentialism is characterized by freedom in which they pursue the essence.

MARIMBA

Marimba is one of the oldest percussion instruments with a very rich history and tradition in many cultures. Nowadays, the instrument is known on each continent. We are witnessing its very dynamic development – it’s becoming an important part of both classical and light music as well as film music. I give multi-part recitals featuring pieces composed for marimba by myself, other Polish composers and contemporary composers of different nationalities as well as transcriptions and arrangements. A brief presentation of the history of marimba is part of the concert.

music production / electroacoustic / sound design / coding virtual instruments

One of my main fields of interest is contemporary electroacoustic and acousmatic music. In each subsequent work, I aim to find interesting sounds and new ways of expression. In electroacoustic projects, I combine elements of new electronic, ambient, minimal, essentialist music with spatial sound design.
